“Shinminato Bridge” Erection Project

One of the Largest Cable-stayed Bridges on the Japan Sea Side, Connecting the East and West of the Shinminato Area in Imizu City.
The Shinminato Bridge is the largest double-deck cable-stayed bridge on the Japan Sea side, located at Toyama Shinko Port in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture.
Construction began in November 2002 as part of the Rinko Road Toyama Shinko East-West Line, and the upper-level roadway opened on September 23, 2012. The lower-level pedestrian and bicycle path followed, opening on June 16, 2013.
The bridge is a five-span continuous composite cable-stayed bridge with a two-level structure: the upper deck for two-lane vehicular traffic and the lower deck for pedestrians and cyclists.
Key specifications:
●Total main bridge length: 600m
●Main span: 360m
●A-shaped main tower height: 127m
●Number of cables: 72, arranged in a fan pattern
●Clearance under the bridge (above sea level): 47m
The approach roads extend 1,650m on the east side and 1,350m on the west side, with the west approach featuring a loop structure.

Memorable Work Experience
Before dawn, in the stillness of the night, the cranes begin to move, lifting a 3,700-ton structure.
Soon, an 80-meter main tower is placed atop the main leg block, rising 127 meters above the sea with its twin towers standing tall on either side. The bridge girders are carefully set in place, suspended horizontally and secured by dozens of cables extending from the main towers.
We played a crucial role in constructing the bridge’s tower piers, as well as numerous bridge piers and girders, lifting each component with multiple cranes from the ground and those mounted on the bridge itself.
Whether under clear skies, rain, strong winds, or even heavy snowfall, we remained dedicated to safe and precise operations, working tirelessly with unwavering commitment.
As the long and challenging construction phase came to an end, looking up at the completed Shinminato Bridge filled us with an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment. Being part of this project is an honor we will cherish forever.
From ITO Corporation
With the construction of Toyama Shinko Port, the town was divided into east and west. However, after more than 40 years of anticipation, this long-held dream was realized with the completion of the Shinminato Bridge, reconnecting the region.
Today, the bridge, alongside the neighboring Kaiwomaru Park and the stunning Tateyama Mountain Range in the background, has become a symbol of Imizu City.
Being involved in the 10-year project to build the largest cable-stayed bridge on the Japan Sea coast is a milestone deeply etched in our company’s history.
